Planting Faith Ministries was founded in 2004 with the mission to spread the Good News of God in Jesus Christ by working to elevate the economic status of African farmers from a subsistence to a sustainable economic level.
Based in Nairobi,
Kenya, Planting Faith is working in partnership with the Anglican Church of
Kenya, Thika Diocese.
In
the last three years, we have worked with over 140 farmers in three Anglican
parishes in the Thika area.
In all three projects, we have helped these farmers find a way toward true
sustainable agriculture
through helping them with finance, technical assistance, marketing assistance
and discipleship training.
Currently, 70 percent of the population in Kenya works in agriculture. Nearly half of them are considered "subsistence" farmers. In other words, they live totally off the land. If the rains fail, they must survive on food aid, as most of them live on about a dollar per day. The farmers working with Planting Faith -- all of whom can be described as "subsistence " are achieving true economic sustainability, rather than living hand to mouth.
Working through an Anglican development ministry in Kenya -- Christian Community Services (CCS) -- we will be training their agronomists how to duplicate our projects in other areas. This strategic partnership will allow us to expand greatly across Kenya.
We are currently (2007) working in four Anglican dioceses, replicating the successes we have had in the past. Our goal is to cover the entire nation of Kenya in the next nine years.
